LA Tech has won five of their last six including three in a row

RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech women's basketball team will square off against UTEP for their third straight home game inside the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La. at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7. 
 
Tech currently holds a half-game advantage over UTEP in the C-USA West division standings.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (13-8, 5-5 C-USA)
Louisiana Tech has now won five of their last six including three in a row after sweeping FAU (64-49) and FIU (81-62) this past Thursday and Saturday in Ruston to move to 8-1 on the season at home.
 
Tech has now shot greater than 50 percent from the floor in their last three games and have a combined 132 points in the paint over the same span. 
 
In addition to the usual suspects in Keiunna Walker (17 ppg) and Anna Larr Roberson (13 ppg, 9 rpg), the Techsters have churned out career-highs from three other players over the last three games. 
 
Salma Bates scored a career-high 17 on the road at North Texas, Silvia Nativi registered two career-highs with 11 rebounds and seven assists versus FAU, and Amaya Brannon had a career-best 17 points in the win over FIU Saturday. 
 
Walker posted two game-highs in the Florida sweep with 19 over FAU and 22 against FIU. She now sits at No. 36 in career all-time scoring for the Lady Techsters after passing Shantel Hardison and Alisa Burras. She needs just 14 points to move past Tia Sossamon for No. 35. 
 
Walker has now scored in double figures for 22 straight games and is just one of three C-USA players to do so in every game this season.
 
Anna Larr Roberson has now scored in double figures in 14 straight games after pouring in 16 on Thursday night. 
 
Roberson is currently leading conference USA in free-throw percentage (.855), ranks No. 2 in rebounding and No. 3 in field goal percentage (.513).
 
The Lady Techsters continue to be one of the top defensive teams in conference USA ranking No. 3 in scoring defense (58.3 ppg), No. 5 in blocked shots (3.5 bpg) and No. 5 in turnovers forced (18.7 tfpg). 
 
The Techsters are averaging 66.6 ppg this season on 42.1 percent shooting and rank as the No. 1 team in conference USA in free-throw percentage (.760). 

ABOUT UTEP (13-8, 5-6 C-USA)
UTEP comes into Ruston Monday night after splitting a pair of home games with a win over North Texas (75-62) and falling to Rice (72-69).  
 
In addition to UNT, the Miners boast wins this season over Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion, and UTSA (twice) but they have dropped three of their last four games. 
 
UTEP is led by a three-headed double-digit scoring tandem in junior Destiny Thurman (13.2 ppg), sophomore Katia Gallegos (11.9) and grad student Teal Battle (10.3).
 
Freshman Elina Arike leads the Miners in rebounding with 7.6 rpg game who also scores 9.4 ppg.
 
UTEP is averaging 67.5 ppg as a team on 40.4 percent shooting while giving up 64.3 ppg on the defensive end. Opponents are shooting 44 percent against the Miners this season.
 
UTEP ranks in the top five in conference USA in offensive rebounds (13.6 rpg) and rebounding margin (+3.4).
 
THE SERIES
Louisiana Tech and UTEP will meet for the 22nd time in women's basketball with Tech holding a 14-8 advantage.

The series has histrically been of various runs by both programs. Tech won the first nine meetings of the series which dates back to 2001-02. UTEP then won six of the next seven followed by Tech winning four in a row, however UTEP swept the series in Ruston last season.  

The Techsters are 7-3 against the Miners in games played in Ruston.
