BOCA RATON, Fla. – Louisiana Tech struggled in the opening weekend of Conference USA action as the Lady Techsters dropped all three games to Florida Atlantic.
Tech (15-11, 0-3 C-USA) fell 3-0, 6-4 and 4-3 on consecutive days to the Owls (14-13, 3-0).
"It was a tough weekend for us," said Tech head coach
Josh Taylor. "I just felt like we reverted back to some bad habits and the wrong mentality at times. It's not who we are. We made it difficult on ourselves.
"But we talked about it and we will get back to work Tuesday. I expect to see a different approach – a better approach mentally and fundamentally – this week. There were some bright spots from some individuals this weekend. We will get there."
Tech had the exact same amount of hits as Florida Atlantic over the three-game set, but struggled at times to get timely hits. Senior
Kara Goff was one of the bright spots, hitting a pinch hit two-run home run in Saturday's 6-4 loss and then coming back Sunday with a solo shot.
Sophomore
Kylie Neel also had some big pinch-hit opportunities on Saturday and Sunday, including driving in the game-tying run with a two-out double in the top of the sixth inning to tie the contest at 3-3.
Sunday's finale was decided on a walk-off single by FAU in the bottom of the 7th.
Tech will travel to face Stephen F. Austin Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
