RUSTON – Louisiana Tech compiled four singles wins to record a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over West Alabama on Saturday afternoon at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
Â
LA Tech (16-2) extended its winning streak to 14 and remained perfect at home this season at 11-0. To do so, they needed four wins in singles as West Alabama (8-4), who came in ranked No. 14 in the country in Division II, opened up the match by claiming the doubles point.
Â
All three doubles courts were right. For LA Tech,
Leonie Schuknecht and
Ana Rodrigues came back from down 1-4 to win 7-5 on court one. However, the Tigers won 6-4 on court three and had a comeback of their own, down 4-5 on court three to win 7-5.
Â
LA Tech got off to a blazing start in singles though, pulling out the first set on five of the six courts.Â
Tiffani Nash evened things up quickly as the Bossier City native bested Heden Ly at the No. 5 position by a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Â
UWA responded with a straight-sets win at the No. 3 spot, but Rodrigues tied the match up minutes later by defeating Valeria Arevalo 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 6 position.
Â
LA Tech made it a clean sweep at the bottom of the lineup as
Ilana Tetruashvili won her seventh straight singles match, outdueling Irawan Deewajee by a score of 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4.
Â
While Rodrigues, Nash and Tetruashvili cleaned up on the back courts, Schuknecht delivered the clincher from the top position as she won 6-0, 6-4 over Almudena Sanz

QUOTABLES
Head coach
Amanda Stone
Â
"I did not think we started today with the right intensity and that showed up in the big points in doubles. However in singles, Leonie and the bottom of our lineup really turned it on and played well. I think that is one of the biggest takeaways from today. Our players can step up and find a path to victory even when we are not clicking everywhere. This week, we will tighten up some things that showed up today and keep chipping away on our season goals. We also had a blast with Kids Day. Thanks to all the kids an fans who came out."
