RUSTON – After a sluggish offensive start, Louisiana Tech poured it on in the second half to come away with a 67-54 victory over Old Dominion on Wednesday night in the final home game of the season inside the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court.
Â
LA Tech (21-8, 12-5 C-USA) could barely find the bottom of the net in the early going, making just three of its first 20 shot attempts including a string of 10 straight misses.
Â
As a result, ODU (12-18, 7-10 C-USA) built a 23-12 lead with 6:06 to play in the first half. However, the Bulldogs finally found a little rhythm offensively, going on a 9-0 run and ultimately only finding themselves down 25-27 at halftime.Â
Â
The second half was a completely different story. The team got the ball inside to
Kenneth Lofton, Jr. who after getting double teamed, kicked it out to
Cobe Williams and
Amorie Archibald for back-to-back three-pointers on the first two possessions of the stanza.
Â
The hot shooting continued as
Keaston Willis made a pair of threes and Williams drained three more in the span of two minutes to put the Bulldogs up 53-37, forcing a Monarch timeout with 12:20 to go.
Â
The lead never got to single digits as LA Tech poured in 42 second-half points while making 15 of its 29 field goal attempts, including seven three-pointers as well as a perfect 5-of-5 from the foul line. Williams finished with a game-high 19 points while Archibald added 18 and Willis 12. Lofton, Jr. chipped in with seven points, nine rebounds and six assists.
Â
ODU was help to 39 percent shooting for the game and made just three shots from beyond the arc. Three Monarchs scored in double figures, led by Austin Trice who had 18 points and 12 boards.
