LAKE CHARLES, La. – Louisiana Tech defeated McNeese State 11-3 Saturday afternoon at Joe Miller Ballpark.
LA Tech (7-4) tallied 11 runs on 11 hits while McNeese (7-4) racked up three runs on seven hits in game two. The Bulldogs have outscored the Cowboys 32-8 in the first two meetings of the series.
The Bulldogs began Saturday's game right where they left off. After a
Taylor Young catcher's interference to lead off the game,
Philip Matulia rocketed a two-run home run off the left field scoreboard to take an early 2-0 lead.
Logan McLeod went 3-for-4 on the day collecting a pair of RBI. His first came in the second inning, singling up the middle scoring
Bryce Wallace and in the fifth when he singled off the shortstops glove to bring in
Jorge Corona.
Steele Netterville and
Bryce Wallace both had monster days at the plate. Netterville was 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the third inning. Wallace went 2-for-3 as well, doubling in the third inning adding to the Bulldog lead.
Taylor Young led the club in RBI on Saturday while not recording one hit. Young was 0-for-2 at the plate with two sacrifice flies and an RBI walk.
Ryan Jennings got his third start against the Cowboys. Jennings was cruising through three innings until getting into trouble in the fourth. The Cowboys were able to load the bases on back-to-back walks and then right fielder, Braden Duhon, shot a two-run double off the left field wall.
Jennings day was complete after 3.2 innings pitched, four hits, three earned runs and four strikeouts.
Landon Tomkins was impressive out of the bullpen. Tomkins was able to escape a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning, and went on to retire seven of the eight batters he faced in 2.1 innings pitched.
Cade Gibson and
Greg Martinez both saw action on the mound combining for only two hits, zero earned runs and two strikeouts to close the door on McNeese.
