LA Tech Makes More History with 4-1 Win

SAN ANTONIO – More history was made by Louisiana Tech on Saturday as they took down Incarnate Word by a final score of 4-1 at the Mabry Tennis Center.
 
LA Tech (13-2) extended its winning streak to 11, giving the program its best start to a spring season in program history.  To get win No. 13, the team first claimed the doubles point and got singles victories on courts two, three and six. 
 
LA Tech first swept all three doubles courts with wins of 6-2, 6-4 and 6-2, marking the 11th time this season they have gotten off to a 1-0 start with the opening point.
 
Ana Rodrigues got back on track in singles, overpowering her opponent Taylor Parkinson to win 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 position.  Olga Bienzobas followed by giving LA Tech its third point of the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kinga Psut at the No. 2 spot.
 
The clinching point then came from Ilana Tetruashvili who played her first match of the season at No. 3, winning three straight games in the second set to down Gargi Pawar by a score of 6-2, 6-4.

NOTABLES
  • LA Tech improved to 13-2 on the season, the best start in program history.In doing so, they also tied the program record for longest winning streak, which extended to 11 straight.
  • Amanda Stone picked up career win No. 150 as a head coach (64 of those have come as head coach at LA Tech).
  • LA Tech has won the doubles point in 11 of its 15 matches and is a perfect 11-0 when winning the doubles point.They swept the three doubles courts versus UIW, improving to 29-11 in dual doubles.
  • LA Tech now leads the all-time series with Incarnate Word, 4-1.
  • The doubles tandems of Ana Rodrigues/Leonie Schuknecht and Ilana Tetruashvili/Najah Dawson each claimed their 10th victory of the spring.
  • Ilana Tetruashvili won her fourth straight singles match.She has a team-best 11-3 record this spring.
  • Ana Rodrigues snapped her three-game losing streak in singles to pick up her fifth victory of the spring.

LA Tech will have a week off before traveling to south Louisiana to face Nicholls State on Saturday, March 12.  First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
