Murphy Fires 64 to lead LA Tech

Auburn, Ala. – Louisiana Tech senior Mac Murphy shot an eight-under-par 64 in the first round of the Tiger Invitational at Grand National Golf Course and currently sits in seventh place.
Due to darkness, not all 14 teams and 87 players were able to complete all 36 holes. The Bulldogs are currently in seventh place, but are one of only three teams that completely finished the first two rounds.
\Behind Mac Murphy's blistering opening round that included eight birdies and 10 pars, Tech shot a team total of six-under-par 282 and sat in third place through 18 holes.
"The guys fought hard today," said Tech coach Mat Terry. "Starting the day at 7 a.m. and finishing at 6 p.m. is always tough. We need to clean up a few things tomorrow, and we should have a good day.
"Mac had a really solid round. We have been waiting on him to have one of those days. We need a couple of those in the final round."
Mac Murphy totaled four birdies on the front nine and four on the back nine for a 32-32 split on his scorecard. He had an eight-hole stretch (holes 7 through 14) where he birdied seven of the eight holes.
James Swash (71) and Sam Murphy (71) were also instrumental in the Bulldogs first round success, firing one-under-par totals. Swash shot an even par 72 and sits at 1-under-par through 36 holes.
Tech will play its final round Monday while the rest of the field completes its second round before playing the third round.
