LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Louisiana Tech falls to Little Rock 8-7 on Wednesday night at Gary Hogan Field, splitting the season series.
LA Tech (28-14, 12-6 C-USA) drops the midweek matchup at Little Rock (17-19, 6-11 Sun Belt) as the Trojans charged for seven runs in the fifth inning.
The Bulldogs and Trojans were held scoreless through the first two innings until
Steele Netterville ripped his 43
rd RBI of the season on a single up the middle. Following the single,
Philip Matulia dashed home on a wild pitch bringing home the second Bulldog run.
LA Tech tallied two more runs in the top of the fifth as Netterville lined a double to left center field bringing home the third Bulldog run. Two batters later
Jorge Corona made the game 4-0.
The Trojans struck for seven runs following the two-run Bulldog fifth. Little Rock scored seven runs coming on a pair of RBI singles, and a bases loaded walk. Canyon McWilliams launched a three-run homer to finish off the Trojan rally.
In the top of the sixth, Netterville blasted his team-leading 11
th home run of the year driving in three more runs to even the game back up 7-7.
Jarret Whorff came on in relief tossing 3.1 innings, striking out three and retiring seven straight batters at one point. The right-hander suffered the loss as Little Rock plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out RBI double.
