RUSTON – Louisiana Tech softball head coach Josh Taylor has announced the addition of Preslie Hewitt as a volunteer assistant coach for the Lady Techsters' Softball staff.
 
Hewitt arrives in Ruston after graduating from the University of Nevada in 2022, where she played outfield for the Wolfpack from 2020-2022. She was a three-time Mountian West Conference academic honoree. Hewitt played for Taylor in 2020 and 2021 while he was the head coach at Nevada, helping the Wolfpack reach a 24-16 mark in 2021.
 
"Preslie is a great addition to the LA Tech Softball family," said Taylor. "Her energy will be a positive force for our entire team. We are excited to welcome Preslie to Ruston and I look forward to helping her grow in the game."
 
In addition to playing softball for Nevada, Hewitt also played a key role in working with university leadership while representing and advocating for Nevada Softball, speaking with donors and supporters of Nevada athletics, meeting with future recruits, and fostering relationships with other athletes and alumni. She also played a pivotal role in the advocacy of women student-athletes, meeting with university officials to discuss Title IX upgrades, equalization, and funding for Nevada Softball.

"Joining a university and championship program that is equally dedicated to providing a premier athletic and academic experience for student athletes is beyond exciting," Hewitt said. "Coach Taylor has the unique ability to identify character in addition to talent and his commitment to fostering intangibles of trust, integrity, and respect is remarkable. It's my absolute honor to be working alongside a staff that is devoted to mentoring young women in leadership, skill, community, and family."
 
Hewitt earned her degree from Nevada in 2022 with a Bachelor of General Studies with an emphasis in Agricultural Science and Education.
 
During Hewitt's tenure at East Nicolaus High School she was a two-time Cal-Hi Sports State Softball Champion in 2018 and 2019 and three-time NSCIF Division V Champion, and was an All-Conference member of the NSCIF League Championship teams in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019. A four-time MVL All-League selection in addition to earning Appeal Democrat All-Area team each of those years, Sac Bee All-Metro first team, and Cal-Hi Sports All-State Softball Team in 2019. East Nicolaus High School Female Athlete of the Year as a junior and senior and also played and earned all-league honors in volleyball, basketball, and track. Hewitt played travel softball under the direction of Paulie Gabales on the Sorcerer Gold Gabales team.
 
Born and raised in a small, rural farming community, Preslie attributes her success to a foundation built on tradition. Pleasant Grove, Calif. remains home to parents John and Stacie Hewitt while her sister Remmington Hewitt enters her freshman softball season at The University of Oregon.
