HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Louisiana Tech soccer fell to Sam Houston Tuesday night in Huntsville, Texas, 2-0.
Despite earning the most corner chances of the season with six and matching their second-highest shot output (10) and shots on goal (6), LA Tech (2-4-1) was unable to break through the Sam Houston defense at Pritchett Field.
Tech played well defensively early on, taking care of the Bearkats' 11 first-half shot attempts ending the half in a 0-0 draw.
However, early in the second half, Sam Houston (0-3-1) took advantage of a busted play that resulted in a collision between two players leaving Pam Murray wide open from 25 yards away. Murray found the top left corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Bearkats would add an insurance goal in the 61' from Alesandra Maldonado, who snuck a ball between the feet of a Tech defender and past
Sydnee Korchak into the lower left corner.
Tech put up eight of their ten shots in the second frame, including opportunities from
Rebecca Lancaster,
Sophie Fijneman, and
Alma Cedefors, but Tech could not get one past Tatum Krueger, who tied a season-high with six saves.
Sydnee Korchak registered six saves in the loss. She has 29 on the season.
QUOTABLES
Head Coach Steve Voltz…
"We played a very hungry and inspired side tonight in Sam Houston. The result is obviously not one we wanted, but I loved the opportunities we created tonight. We put ourselves in great positions to make plays, it just didn't break our way tonight. We have to continue working on capitalizing and sense those opportunities to strike.
We are getting a lot of players a lot of experience due to the injuries we've had and we feel we will be better for it down the road. We've got one more non-conference opportunity on the road at Little Rock Friday to prepare for a very tough conference schedule. We will get home, rest, then get back to training and come out ready to play well on Friday."
