TULSA, Okla. – Louisiana Tech swept all doubles and singles matches on Sunday against Omaha, finishing with a 7-0 victory to close out the Hurricane Invite at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Â
LA Tech (2-1) went with the same doubles lineups for all three matches in the round robin event.Â
Alexia Romero and
Valentina Vazquez were the first to finish, winning 6-1 at No. 3. Clinching the opening point was
Leonie Schuknecht and
Najah Dawson with a 6-2 victory at No. 1.Â
Olga Bienzobas and
Ana Rodrigues made it 3-for-3 as the duo came out on top, 6-4, at No. 2.
Â
And just like their match against Wyoming, the top of the singles lineup came through to clinch the team victory right off the bat against Omaha (1-2). Schuknecht continued her winning ways, surrendering just four games to down Jessica Aragon by a score of 6-2, 6-2 on court one.
Â
Bienzobas was able to outlast Zoe Adkins on court two with a 6-4, 7-5 win. Then clinching it was
Tiffani Nash who came back against Ines Absisan to win 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 on court three.
Â
The bottom of the singles lineup was dominant in helping produce the shutout. Courts 4-6 allowed just 13 total games between the three. Romero prevailed 6-0, 6-3 versus Addison Miller,
Ilana Tetruashvili delivered a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Keegan VanPelt in her first action of the weekend, and Vazquez grabbed her first dual singles win as a Lady Techster with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Lillian Tiemeyer.
Â
Prior to LA Tech's match with Omaha, the Lady Techsters dropped all three doubles courts to Tulsa (3-0) who ended up taking the match, 6-1.
QUOTABLES
Head coach Amanda Stone
"I love opening up the season in Tulsa because it pushes our team both mentally and physically. We stress how we need to be a team that shows up fired up and performs at a high level consistently no matter who the opponent is. This event gives the opportunity to play a team that's about even with us, one we should beat, and one that is a little better than us. I really feel like we passed the test this weekend. We had an impressive win over Wyoming, took care of business against a scrappy Omaha team, and pushed Tulsa in a way we have not done before. Individually, Leonie really stood out and I am proud she is carrying over all the confidence she earned in the fall. What I am really excited about is how we performanced consistently as a team. Everyone was able to contribute in the wins and competed hard."
