Bulldogs Drop Road Match to Bearkats

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Louisiana Tech volleyball team fell to Sam Houston, 3-0, on Wednesday night at the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville, Texas.

LA Tech (6-12, 1-5) drew first blood for the second day, jumping to a 2-0 lead. Sam Houston (7-12, 1-5) responded by getting the next six. The Bearkats would extend their lead to six on multiple occasions before the Bulldogs fought back to get within two at 18-16. Sam Houston would use a timeout and extend their lead back to five before taking the first set.

The Bulldogs started pulling away halfway through the set after Ashley Taylor and Jailen Hurley combined for a block to make it 15-11. LA Tech would get to 20 on a kill by Sydney Jackwin, but Sam Houston would force the Bulldogs to call a timeout after two straight errors. The Bearkats would claw back into the lead with three straight and eventually take the set.

Sam Houston continued that momentum into the third set and raced to a 10-5 lead. LA Tech would use a timeout and start to claw their way back into the set. Down 19-14, Tech put together four straight points to get within one. Sam Houston would secure the following two points, and the Bulldogs wouldn't be able to get any closer. The Bearkats would take the match 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-22).

QUOTABLES
Head coach Amber McCray

"It's highly frustrating to see a game plan work one night and then come back the very next day and fail to implement it again. Hats off to Sam Houston for bringing the energy from the first point and never backing down. They had a couple of players who we did not make the changes to stop and they willed their team to the win tonight. I'm proud of Carla for staying aggressive in the shots we said would score in the game plan, but we are going to need more than just one person killing balls to win matches. Several aspects of our game were significantly off tonight and we still had chances in each set. I'm looking forward to this bye weekend to regroup and a few extra practices to go get ready for MTSU."
