BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Tech Tennis team wrapped up action at the ITA Southern Regional Championships, combining to win seven singles matches over the course of four days at the LSU Tennis Complex.
 
Valentina Vasquez got the action started on day one as part of the singles qualifying bracket.  The senior ended up winning back-to-back matches over Leena Metwally of Troy (7-5, 6-4) and Suhana Sofia of Southern Miss (6-7, 6-4, 1-0) before falling in a third set super tiebreaker to Nikola Novotona of South Alabama.
 
The start of the singles main draw began Friday with four Bulldogs slotted for matches.  The lone victory came from Olga Bienzobas who downed Jiayun Zhu of Tulane by a score of 6-3, 6-4.  She then met No. 3 seed Petra Sedlackova (Alabama) in the Round of 32, falling 6-7, 1-6.
 
LA Tech added a handful of consolation singles matches to its schedule and collected some wins.  Ana Rodrigues prevailed twice, winning in straight sets over Noelle Mauro of Samford (6-3, 6-1) and Mackenzie White of UAB (7-6, 6-3).
 
Tiffani Nash and Alexia Romero also notched one win apiece, taking care of Alexis Lopez of Samford (6-4, 6-1) and Brooke Theis of Tulane (6-0, 7-6), respectively.
 
The Bulldogs lost both of their doubles matches in the main draw.  Bienzobas/Romero lost to the No. 8 seed LSU, 1-8, while Vasquez/Rodrigues fell narrowly to the No. 6 seed of Ole Miss, 6-8.
