RUSTON | The Louisiana Tech men's and women's Indoor Track teams will compete at the 2023 Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships this week in Birmingham, Ala. The meet will take place over Saturday, Feb. 18, and Sunday, Feb. 19, at the CrossPlex Athletic Facility.

The 2023 championships will begin Saturday morning with the combined events at 9 a.m., followed by field events at 1 p.m. and running events at 3 p.m. The second day will start with combined events at 8:30 a.m., followed by field events 90 minutes later, and conclude with the running events at noon.
LA Tech will compete against the other ten C-USA programs with 17 male and 18 female athletes in 28 combined events.
Tech set 39 combined PRs through the four weeks of its indoor season, capped off by two gold medal performances on the men's side in the regular season finale with
Mateo Smith (long jump) and
Nemoy Cockett (weight throw). Smith and Cockett each set personal bests on their way to the top of the podium at the Jaguar Invitational two weeks ago, with Cockett registering the second-best throw in program history.
On the track,
Rodney Heath Jr. and the men's 60m event group have shined, ranking inside the top 20 in the nation with an average time of 6.77. Heath Jr. tied the program record (6.64), ranks No. 25 in the NCAA this season, and also owns the second-best time in the Tech record books.
The Louisiana Tech women have competed well this season, setting PRs in the triple jump (

Shania Parkinson), 400m (
Faith Tarver), and 60m (
Ulanda Lewis,
Kayla Watson,
Leah Ellis), and 60m H (
Kayla Watson).
