TAMPA, Fla. – A day after grinding out a win over South Florida, Louisiana Tech was back on the courts less than 24 hours later and ended up running out of gas against Toledo, falling 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
Â
Half of the singles courts went the distance, splitting sets, but not before LA Tech (8-4) was able to strike first with the doubles point.Â
Â
The tandems of
Olga Bienzobas/
Ana Rodrigues and
Alexia Romero/
Valentina Vazquez both came away victorious with scores of 6-3 apiece on courts two and three, respectively.
Â
Toledo (8-2) bounced back though in singles play, getting straight-set wins on courts two and four to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.
Â
The Lady Techsters countered with a straight-set win of their own as
Ilana Tetruashvili came out on top, 6-2, 7-6 (1) against Julia Kuszynski at the No. 6 spot to even things up at 2-all.
Â
Meanwhile, courts one, three, and five were all headed to a third and deciding set. The Rockets' Mariona Perez helped Toledo retake the lead by coming back from a set down to win on court three.
Â
LA Tech's
Leonie Schuknecht was attempting to do the same, coming back from dropping the first set, 4-6, to claim the second set, 6-2, versus Cassie Alcala. However, Alcala repeated her first set score to clinch the match for Toledo.
Â
Rodrigues provided the third point for the Lady Techsters, outlasting Sanjana Tallamraju, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 at the No. 5 position.
