AUSTIN, Texas | Five athletes from the Louisiana Tech Track & Field teams competed in the 95
th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin this weekend, with
Rodney Heath Jr. breaking a 37-year-old program record, previously held by Kevin Loyd, in the men's 100m.
In Friday's 100m prelims, Heath Jr. ran a personal best and program record with a 10.12. The Kentucky transfer was edged by .004 in his heat for one of the five automatic heat qualifiers but ran the fourth fastest time of the remaining 171 athletes to grab the ninth and final qualifying spot.
In Saturday's final, Heath Jr. tied the previous program record of 10.21 to take eighth overall. Isaiah Trousil of Northern Iowa took first with a 10.16.
In the women's 100m prelims,
Ulanda Lewis ran an 11.67, only .02 off her event best, to finish 16
th out of 127 athletes.
Kaylyn Heath (12.03) finished just outside the top half of the field.
In the women's 100m hurdles,
Kayla Watson finished 40
th, out of 99 runners in the prelim round, with a 14.55, and
Nike Praetzel (14.63) ran the third-best time of her career to grab a top-50 finish.
