Bulldogs Sign Two Standout Players from California

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech head coach Talvin Hester announced Wednesday the signing of junior college transfers Terri Miller Jr. and Sean Newman Jr., both of whom were standout players in California.
Miller, a 6-foot-8, 250-pound forward from Fresno, spent the past two seasons at College of the Sequoias while Newman, a 6-foot-1, 160-pound guard from Culver City, played for Fullerton College the last two seasons.
Miller played and started in 28 games a sophomore for the Giants, leading them to a 27-4 overall record, a Central Valley Conference regular season title, a Northern California Regionals title, and an appearance in the Final Eight.
"Terri will add a much-needed physical presence inside," said Hester. "He is a very skilled and talented big man that will make an immediate impact inside. We are glad to say he is one of ours."
The do-it-all forward was named Co-Central Valley Conference MVP and All-State while averaging 13.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. He shot 56.1 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from three-point range.
Miller tallied 13 double-doubles, including a stretch of five straight games with a double-double. He also had a triple-double against Merced, registering 14 points, 11 rebounds, and a career-high 10 assists. His career-high in scoring came at Porterville, netting 29 points to go along with 13 boards.
He helped the Giants to the Final Four as a freshman, playing in 31 games with nine starts. He averaged 7.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks in his first year while shooting 57.7 percent. He posted three double-doubles, including two games with at least 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Newman guided the Hornets to a 32-1 overall record, ending the season on a 25-game winning streak that included an 83-73 victory over San Francisco for the 2023 CCCAA state championship.
"I am very excited to add a guard with great talent and leadership qualities to our program and University," said Hester. "Sean will be a fan favorite."
The Orange Empire Conference MVP and All-State guard averaged 13.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game as a sophomore while also helping Fullerton College win the Orange Empire Conference regular season title after going a perfect 16-0 in league play.
He shot 51.5 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from three, and 90.6 percent from the foul line (missed only 13 free throws all season, going 126-of-139 from the charity stripe). He had 22 double-digit scoring performances, including eight games of 20+ points (recorded a career-high 29 points on two different occasions).
His freshman year at Fullerton College was cut short due to injury. In just seven games played, he averaged 6.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
Prior to Fullerton College, was a standout prep player at Culver City High School where he was the Ocean League MVP as a senior and a McDonald's All-American game nominee. He averaged 25 points, five rebounds, and four assists per game for the Centaurs.
