BATON ROUGE, La. | Louisiana Tech men's and women's Track & Field teams picked up six event wins and set 11 PRs today in Baton Rouge at the Pelican Relays hosted by Southern University, including three first-time event winners.
William Estes claimed his first collegiate event win in the men's javelin with a toss of 48.18m (158' 1''),
Natalie Moten PR'd to grab her first career win in the discus (44.10m, 144' 8''), and
Rebecca Quebedeaux claimed her first 3000m career win with a run of 11:35.91.
Quebedeaux led the Techsters in the 3000m for a podium sweep with
Lexa Thompson (11:57.59) and
Jacquelin LaBerteaux (12:07.07), who PR'd by over eight seconds.
Faith Tarver got Tech recorded her second 400m event win of the outdoor season with a 57.48, while
Chanel Honeywell ran her personal best in the women's 100m with a 12.34 to grab sixth place in a three-heat field.
In the women's long jump, the Techsters placed all five competitors in the top ten, including
DaLoria Boone and
Pleasant Harris, going one-two for gold and silver. On Boone's last leap, she recorded a new personal best of 5.82m (19' 1.25''), while Harris jumped 5.58m (18' 3.75'').
Johannon Murray,
Elizabeth Sebera, and
Jiana Stewartburgess all grabbed third-place finishes in their respective events, while Murray added a PR in the shot put with a heave of 11.66m (38' 3.25''). Sebera (51.32, 168' 4'') took third in the women's hammer throw, while Stewartburgess tied her personal best in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.70m (5' 7'').
Nemoy Cockett claimed his second podium of the 2023 outdoor season in the men's hammer throw, taking second, with a throw of 52.69m (172' 10'').
The Bulldogs' 100m four-member sprint group each PR'd in the event and claimed three of the top seven times.
Marshall Ellis (4
th) ran 10.64,
Devin Walton (6
th) and
Gerard Sapena (7
th) each ran a 10.66, and
Javion Canna posted an 11.51.
Logan Bailey grabbed third place in the men's 3000m with a 9:29.30, while
Hayes Gill (9:43.08) and
Jacob Paulk (9:55.97) each PR'd.
In the 4x400m relays, LA Tech's men took gold while the women took bronze.
Laeden Tucker,
Marshall Ellis,
Jamie Sancho, and
Rodney Heath Jr. combined for a season-best 3:24.89, and
Faith Tarver,
Chanel Honeywell,
Victoria Datta, and
Ulanda Lewis put together a 3:57.22.
The 11 personal bests today bring LA Tech's team total to 100 for the 2023 indoor and outdoor seasons.
