LA Tech Suffers Loss to Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – Louisiana Tech freshman Kyra Taylor notched her second straight multi-goal game, but Louisiana Tech suffered a 6-2 loss to Ole Miss on Sunday afternoon at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

Taylor registered a goal in each period for LA Tech (3-4-1), but Ole Miss (3-3-1) tallied three goals in each half to hand the Bulldogs their third straight road loss.

LA Tech had the first scoring opportunity of the day five minutes in when Flavie Dube intercepted a pass at the top of the 18.  The sophomore dribbled inside the 18, but her shot barely missed left of the far post.

Ole Miss took advantage of its first scoring chance as Kelly Brady put in a loose ball after a diving save by Emma Duguay in the 14th minute.  The Rebels tacked on two more in the 19th and 28th minute to go up by three goals.

With about five minutes remaining before halftime, Kalli Matlock took a corner kick that got batted around and went high in the air, which is where Taylor went up and headed the ball into the back of the net from close range.

However, the Rebels reeled off three straight goals in the second half before Taylor struck again for LA Tech in the 90th minute when she curled in a left-footed shot from 15 yards out for her second goal.

QUOTABLES
Head coach Steve Voltz

"We had an opportunity to go up early again, but we did not take advantage.  We invited easy goals and you cannot do that.  We had higher aspirations today.  Our standards have to be higher.  We continue to make life too easy for the opposition.  We have to take advantage of the opportunities given to us and we have to cut down on the opportunities that we give to the other team.  We have a home game coming up and then conference starts so we have to get this sorted out."

NOTABLES
  • With the loss, LA Tech now trails the all-time series with Ole Miss, 0-2-0.
  • Kyra Taylor netted both goals for LA Tech.It marked the second straight game the freshman has recorded multiple goals, a first by a Bulldog since 2018.
  • Kalli Matlock, Sophie Fijneman, and Madita Ehrig went the distance for the full 90 minutes.
