ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (8-12, 2-3)
Louisiana Tech dropped a heartbreaker to UTEP, 61-57, on Thursday at the Don Haskin Center.
Anna Larr Roberson had her second straight 20-point effort in the loss. Roberson finished with a game-high 23 points and led the Lady Techsters with seven rebounds. The senior is eighth in Conference USA with 12.6 points and ninth at 5.7 rebounds per game. Her 53 percent shooting clip is third in the league and 54th in the nation.
Another contributor for the Lady Techsters was Silvia Nativi, who had nine points, six assists, and three boards. Nativi averages 3.1 assists per game and has six games with 5+ on the season.
Salma Bates has been one of the top defenders in Conference USA this season. The senior guard ranks third with 35 steals and fourth with 1.8 steals per game.
Tech continues to be the best-distributing team in the league, with 13.6 assists per game. Besides Nativi, Bates is second on the team with 2.7, and Morris is at 2.3, 10th and 12th in CUSA.
ABOUT New Mexico State (8-10, 2-3)
New Mexico State comes into the contest off a dominating win over Sam Houston, 76-63 on Thursday. The Aggies had four players in double figures, led by Molly Kaiser with 19.
New Mexico State has fared better at home than on the road. The Aggies are 4-3 inside the Pan American Center but only 1-1 in conference play.
The Aggies have just one player in double-figures, Kaiser at 14.4. Tylie Jones and Jaila Harding are close behind at 9.7 and 9.6, respectively. Kaiser has three games of 20 or more, including 22 against Arizona to open the season.
Known for their suffocating defense, New Mexico State gives up just 59.6 ppg (79th nationally), forces 19.2 turnovers per game (55th nationally), and allows their opponents to just 25.1 percent from behind the arc (11th nationally).
THE SERIES
The two teams spent eight seasons (2005-13) as league foes in the WAC, but this will be the first meeting since then. LA Tech has dominated the series and holds a 16-4 advantage. New Mexico State won the last two meetings during the 2012-13 season.
