BOSSIER CITY, La. – Louisiana Tech racked up 18 victories over the course of two days as the Bulldogs wrapped up the inaugural Red River Invitational on Sunday at the Bossier Tennis Center.
Â
LA Tech was particularly dominant in singles, going a combined 14-6 as a team against the likes of Stephen F. Austin, McNeese State, and Xavier (La.). The top of the lineup paved the way with the Bulldogs going 10-0 on lines one through four.
Â
While playing at the No. 2 spot,
Zoie Epps went a perfect 3-0 to improve to 6-1 after two fall tournaments. She was overpowering on day one, winning 6-2, 6-2 over SFA and 6-1, 6-2 against Xavier. However, Sunday brought on some adversity. After cruising to a 6-2 win in the first set versus McNeese, the sophomore dropped the second set, 1-6. She then dropped the first three points in the third set super breaker but reeled off six straight points in route to a 10-6 win to go undefeated.
Â
Maria Tsironi matched Epps' performance with a 3-0 weekend of her own. The freshman, playing at No. 3, did not drop a single set, winning 6-2, 6-3 against SFA and 6-1, 6-1 versus Xavier on Saturday followed by an impressive 6-3, 6-1 victory over McNeese on Sunday.Â
Â
Another undefeated Bulldog in singles was
Nina Skoric who delivered victories on both of her matches. The sophomore transfer, playing at No. 4, took down SFA (6-2, 6-4) and McNeese (6-2, 6-2) to go 2-0.Â
Â
Senior
Ana Rodrigues held down the top spot in singles, going 2-1 on the weekend. She overcame a tough loss in the third set to SFA to take down Xavier (6-4, 7-5) and McNeese (7-6, 6-2). Junior transfer
Mio Kozaki also went 2-1, grinding out a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (7) win over SFA and a 6-2, 6-3 breeze against Xavier.
Â
Soha Singh and
June Vigneron each notched one win at the No. 6 position. Vigneron outlasted SFA on Saturday with a 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (9) win while Singh capped off the event, finishing off McNeese with a 6-4, 6-3 in the final match of the Red River Invitational.
Â
Rodrigues and Epps, playing at the top spot in doubles, went 2-1 together with a pair of victories against McNeese (6-2) and SFA (6-2). The pairings of Tsironi/Brook and Singh/Kozaki each claimed one win.

Head coach Amy Sargeant
Â
"I was really pleased with the weekend overall. The team has been working very hard the last couple of weeks on shot tolerance and building points. This weekend, they played with a lot of grit. Conditions were tough, but we competed well. I look forward to how we can continue this success going into regionals next week."
