RUSTON – Louisiana Tech had no answer to the Kennesaw State attack on Friday night. The Bulldogs fell in straight sets (25-18, 25-16, 25-18) in the Thomas Assembly Center.
KSU (11-13, 8-5) came out the gate swinging, but LA Tech (6-20, 0-13) had an answer early on. After the Owls won the first point,
Charlize Williams put the Bulldogs ahead with a kill and block on consecutive points. Kennesaw State used a 6-2 run to regain the lead before Tech clawed their way back within one. However, eight consecutive points gave KSU a nine-point lead, and LA Tech wouldn't get any closer than five.
Â
Tech continued to hang around early in the second set. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs could only hold serve once, and Kennesaw State would gradually pull away.
Â
The Bulldogs put together three straight points to grab a 3-2 lead. LA Tech could only duplicate that run two more times while KSU used a four and five-point run to pull away in the final set.
Â
Giulia Bonifacio led Tech with seven kills and added eight digs. Williams had another multi-block effort, finishing with three while adding four kills.
Riley Steubing had 10 digs, and
Meghan Scharpenberg had 15 assists.
Â
The Owls were led by Manu Johnsen, who had 20 kills and chipped in seven digs. Leah Freeman had a game-high 15 digs, and Kaeley Walz and Kourtney Brown had 21 and 20 assists.
