Bulldogs are one of 14 teams participating in the two-day event
RUSTON – Louisiana Tech returns to action as the Bulldogs are one of 14 teams participating in the Hal Williams Collegiate, a two-day event hosted by the University of South Alabama.
EVENT INFORMATION
Dates: Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 12-13
Location: RTJ Magnolia Grove Golf Course (Mobile, Ala.)
Stats: HERE
Stroke Play: 3 rounds/54 holes (36 holes Monday, 18 holes Tuesday)
Participants: 14 teams | 80 golfers
ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH
LA Tech is coming off a 9th-place finish at the Sea Best Invitational with victories over six teams including Conference USA foe Liberty. A tough finish on the final three holes led to the Bulldogs shooting 297-288-288=873 (+33) in the event that featured seven teams in the top 100.
Niilo Maki-Petaja was the top Bulldog, tying for fourth as an individual. The freshman, who was voted CUSA Golfer of the Week, was one of just two players to shoot at or under par for all three rounds, carding 70-69-70=209 (-1). In doing so, he lowered his scoring average to a team-best 72.80.
Hunter Battles had the second-best finish for LA Tech at the Sea Best Invitational, tying for 33rd. He is right behind Maki-Petaja in scoring average this season at 73.08.
Lake Juban and Will Patrick (individual) will both be making their sixth appearance at an event this season while Joel Thomas Stephens will be making his fourth (first since the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate back in early October).
And returning to the golf course for the first time this season will be Thomas Henson who has been sidelined due to injury. He played in all 11 events last season with a stroke average of 74.30 over 33 rounds, second best on the squad.
