ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (11-17, 5-8)
Louisiana Tech picked up a 70-63 overtime victory over New Mexico State on Saturday, giving them two consecutive wins and moved into a four-way tie for fifth in Conference USA.
Jianna Morris earned her second CUSA Freshman of the Week honors after two stellar performances against UTEP and New Mexico State. Morris scored eight of her 10 points in the second half against the Miners, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the third quarter. She followed that up with seven points against the Aggies. She averages 6.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists a game for the season.
A staple for the past five seasons, Anna Larr Roberson earned Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honors. The senior forward averaged 18.5 points and 3.5 boards in the two games for the week. Roberson collected her 900th career rebound against the Miners, becoming the 13th player in Lady Techster history with 1,500 points and 900 rebounds.
The Lady Techsters continue to be one of the best ball distributors in CUSA. Tech averages 13.6 assists a game and a 0.88 assists/turnover ratio.
LA Tech has hit the long ball at one of the highest rates in program history. The Lady Techsters have knocked down 173 triples and are 13 away from tying the school record 186 set in the 2019-202 season.
ABOUT WESTERN KENTUCKY (15-13, 6-7)
Western Kentucky enters the contest on a three-game losing streak after falling to UTEP, NM State, and Middle Tennessee. The Lady Toppers are just 1-6 in conference road games this season.
WKU is currently in fourth in the conference and holds a one-game lead on LA Tech, UTEP, NM State, and Jacksonville State with three games remaining.
The Lady Toppers shot just 26.6 percent from the field and 16 percent from deep against MTSU.
Aaliyah Pitts led the way with her first double-double of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds. For the season, the senior averages just 4.6 points and 4.3 boards a game. She has started the past five games, averaging 7.2 rebounds in those contests.
Teresa Faustino was the only other player in double figures with 10 against the Bule Raiders.
Destiny Salary and Alexis Mead are the top WKU players on the season. Salary averages 12.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.4 steals a game since becoming eligible. Mead contributes 11.3 points, 4.3 boards, 3.9 assists, and 1.9 steals a ball game.
WKU is one of the country's top three-point shooting and defensive teams. The Hilltoppers force 19.82 turnovers, 32nd in the country, and gets 10.7 steals per game, 27th nationally, for a 4.53 turnover margin, 30th nationally. They take 22.8 three-pointers and make 6.8 per game.
