Bulldogs Fall on the Road Against Demons

NATCHITOCHES, La. - Louisiana Tech falls on the road against Northwestern State on Tuesday night. Tech (13-4) scored five runs on nine hits, while the Demons (5-12) had eleven runs and thirteen hits with two errors. 

Northwestern State started the scoring early, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. Cole McConnell (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 HR) with a two-run home run tied the game in the bottom of the third inning, making it a 2-2 game. Ethan Bates (2-for-4, 1 3B, 1 BB) followed up with a triple to right field. Bates eventually scored on a wild pitch from Northwestern State, and Tech took the lead going into the bottom of the third (3-2). 

The Demons scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning after a 2 RBI single from Daniel Young, which led to the start of the scoring run. A Samuel Stephensen 2 RBI double notched in two more runs, increasing the score to 6-3 in the Demons's favor. Northwestern State forced two more runs after a Reese Liopma sac fly and a Rocco Gump single up the middle, extending their lead to 8-3. 
Northwestern State followed up with more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, led by a pair of RBI singles from Cole Joyner and Cole Hill. Rocco Gump extended the Demons's lead to 11-3 after he singled up the middle, scoring one run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cole McConnell continued his night with a single, which Tech scored two extra runs after a throwing error by Northwestern State's shortstop, eventually making the score 11-5. 
 
Tech has given up double-digit hits and runs in the last three games, which hasn't happened since May 13-18, 2023, when the Bulldogs faced Florida Atlantic twice and UTSA. Tech's pitching gave up 11 earned runs, while Reed Smith had six of those earned runs. Pitcher Connor Nation had three strikeouts and gave one hit on the night.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will be at the J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park on Wednesday to face ULL Ragin Cajuns. The first pitch for Wednesday's contest will be at 6:00 PM.
