Clutch Hitting Lifts Dogs over Nicholls

LA Tech wins 6-4 in midweek game at Nicholls

THIBODAUX, La. -- Late-game hitting carried Louisiana Tech to a 6-4 victory over Nicholls on Wednesday night at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field. LA Tech (17-6) scored six runs on 11 hits with one error while Nicholls (17-7) picked up four runs on eight hits with two errors.

LA Tech jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Dalton Davis helped score Kasten Furr and Cole McConnell with a two-RBI single to center field in the first inning. Then Nicholls took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning after scoring three runs as a result of a pair of RBI singles and an RBI groundout.

Eventually, the Bulldogs fought to take the lead back in the seventh after an Ethan Bates RBI double down the left-field line scored Davis, tying the game at three. Adarius Myers (4-for-4, RBI, BB, SB), perfect on the night at the plate, put the Bulldogs up 4-3 after his RBI single, allowing Bates to score from third. Later, Will Safford (1-for-1, HR, 2 RBI) sent a ball over the wall in right, extending Tech's lead to 6-3 in the top of the ninth. However, Nicholls scored another run in the bottom of the ninth, but a swinging strike out from Garrett Felix ended the game.

Bates picked up his sixth save of the year after coming on in the eighth inning for relief work. Reed Smith (1-2) earned his first win of the season while giving LA Tech 1.1 innings of work, giving up one hit and striking one batter.
