RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech earned a series sweep over Jax State after a Sunday afternoon victory. Tech (20-6, 3-0 CUSA) secured a 5-1 victory over Jax State (9-14, 0-3 CUSA) on Sunday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.Â
Tech continued another great hitting performance by collecting ten hits on Sunday. In the bottom of the first inning, Ethan Bates (1-for-3, RBI, BB) picked his six RBI on the weekend after knocking a ball down the left field line, scoring Kasten Furr. Later in the inning, Grant Comeaux batted in a two-RBI single up the middle, forcing Bates and Dalton Davis to score and give Tech a 3-0 lead.Â
Eventually, Tech extended its lead after Furr (2-for-4, RBI, 3B) hit a ball way off in the right field corner, giving him a Triple and RBI, allowing Michael Ballard to score home. A Cole McConnell RBI single to the left side of the field in the bottom of the fourth scored Furr, extending Tech's lead 5-0. Then Jax State earned a run after an RBI single from Will Fincher in the top of the fifth inning, resulting in the game being 5-1.
While on the mound, Tech's starting pitcher Turner Swistak, went 5.0 innings of work while striking out four batters and giving up one run. Senior Sam Brodersen fanned down six batters while allowing one walk and two hits in his 2.0 innings of work. Bates closed out the last two innings of the ball with two strikeouts and no hits or walks.Â
QUOTABLESÂ
Coach Lane Burroughs's Quote:
" We didn't strike out today, which is huge, but from a pitching standpoint, we didn't walk a lot of people all weekend. Our guys made pitches in crucial and high-level situations all weekend. Today, most of our damage was done, with two outs, and Comeaux had a big two-out two-RBI single in the first. Furr has the two-out RBI triple in the fourth with Cole McConnell's RBI single as well."Â
