Bulldogs Conclude Road Trip With Doubleheader at Ole Miss

RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech Softball team concludes its road trip with a doubleheader at Ole Miss on Tuesday, April 16 at 3 p.m.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (26-12, 9-6 CUSA)
Louisiana Tech is 26-12 this season and coming off a 2-1 weekend at Jacksonville State. LA Tech dropped the opening-game 8-7 before winning the final two games, 4-2 and 8-3 to earn the series victory.
Kylie Neel batted .556 with five hits, two home runs, a triple, eight RBI, four runs scored and 13 total bases at Jax State. Neel went 2-2 with a two-run home run, triple and sacrifice fly while driving in four runs during the Bulldogs' 8-3 series clinching win over the Gamecocks on Sunday to register her 33rd career multi-hit game and fourth career four-RBI game. During Saturday's 4-2 victory she was the only player with multiple hits in the contest and drove in three of the Bulldogs' four runs by going 2-4 with a three-run home run and two runs scored.
First baseman Aubree Seaney checked in at No. 6 on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays by turning a double play in which she dove and caught a bunt attempt and threw out the retreating runner at first base in Sunday's series finale at Jax State.
Nicole Hammoude leads LA Tech with 29 RBI and five home runs this season. In a win over Georgia Tech on April 6, she went 2-4 with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored, becoming the first Bulldog to hit multiple home runs in a game since Kara Goff did so in a 3-2 extra-innings loss against North Alabama on February 27, 2021.
Center fielder Alexis Gilio has been the Dogs' best hitter this season. She leads LA Tech with a .400 batting average and 46 hits, 17 RBI, 25 Runs scored, 14 walks and a team-leading 10 stolen bases. Defensively Gilio has committed one error in 64 chances. Gilio robbed a would-be game-tying home run in the bottom of the seventh of a 4-2 win over Jacksonville State (4/13).
Second baseman Caroline Easom is batting .336 with 39 hits, seven doubles, 23 RBI, and nine runs scored this season. She has struck out just 10 times in 116 at-bats. Easom's 197 career starts rank 13th in program history.
Katelin Cooper leads LA Tech with 27 walks this season. She became the first Bulldog to post 20+ walks in three consecutive seasons since Morgan Turkoly accomplished the feat from 2017-19.
As a team, LA Tech has already recorded 13+ hits in 10 games this season after doing it eight times a year ago.
Opponents are hitting .246 against the Bulldogs' pitching staff in 2024. LA Tech holds a team ERA of 2.58 and a 1.22 WHIP in 252.2 innings pitched this season. In the last two seasons the Bulldog pitchers have held opponents to two runs or less in 49 of their 93 games played.
Allie Floyd leads LA Tech in innings pitched (106.0) and strikeouts (63) this season while owning a 2.31 ERA. She has a 12-4 record and five saves this season. Floyd has held opponents to a .226 batting average in 2024.
Brook Melnychuk is 9-6 this season with a 2.61 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts. Opposing hitters are batting .226 against her.
The Bulldogs reached the 1,300-win mark earlier this season, becoming the 39th DI program (DI and AIAW included) to accomplish the feat.
On April 15, the Bulldogs checked in at No. 50 in the latest NCAA RPI Rankings, the second-best mark among all Conference USA schools.
LA Tech is led by head coach Josh Taylor, who is 97-56 in three seasons at Tech and 330-224 in his career. He previously served as head coach at Nevada (2017-2021) and Feather River College (2009-2012).
ABOUT OLE MISS (23-19, 3-12 SEC)
The Rebels are 23-19 this season and coming off a 2-1 weekend against WKU. The Rebels fell in game one 3-0 before taking games two and three by the scores of 11-3 (6 inn.) and 12-3 (5 inn.) to win the series.
Ole Miss is batting .284 as a team with 313 hits, 27 home runs, 180 RBI, and 199 runs scored.
Offensively, Ole Miss has five players in the starting lineup batting above .300. Aynslie Forbush leads the Rebels with a .350 batting average. She has 36 hits, five doubles, six home runs and 32 RBI this season. Jalia Lassiter is batting .329 has a team-best 46 hits while driving in 23 runs and scoring 25. Lexie Brady is the biggest power threat in the lineup she is batting .301 with a team-leading 11 home runs, 30 RBI and 28 runs scored.
In the circle, Ole Miss owns a 2.97 team ERA. Catelyn Riley leads the Rebels with a 2.70 ERA in 67.1 innings pitched. Makenna Kliethermes owns a 10-6 record with a team-best 81 strikeouts in 75.2 innings pitched.
Jamie Trachsel is in her fourth season as head coach of Ole Miss with a record of 132-88. Before Ole Miss, she served as head coach at Minnesota (2018-20), Iowa State (2017), and North Dakota State (2011-16). Trachsel has a career coaching record of 478-272.
