Tech Scorches Tigers for 4-1 Victory

LA Tech defeated Jackson State 4-1

RUSTON, La. - After an hour rain delay, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs picked up a win over Jackson State on Thursday night. LA Tech scorched the Tigers in a 4-1 victory on a wet Thursday night at Robert Mack Caruthers Field.

Tech unloaded its attack early, following an Emma Jones goal in the 2nd minute of the contest. Jones would score while taking a free kick for Tech, which the ball would go through Jackson State goalkeeper Valentina Goodloe's hands and bounce in.

Jackson State responded with a goal from Karime Antonio Lopez in the 5th minute as she broke through Tech's back line tying up the game. Later in the 37th minute, sophomore Kyra Taylor muscled around a Jackson State defender to score her first goal of the season.

Tech took a 2-1 lead as the second half started and kept the scoring attack going. Dakota Merino booted her first goal of the season after taking a Tech free kick from outside and netting a goal in the 81st minute. Eventually, Taylor would get her second goal of the night in the 87th minute after a Madison Pensom shot bounced off the Jackson State goalkeeper and landed in front of Taylor for the easy goal.

"Kyra broke through for a little bit. I am happy for her she needs that for her confidence and happy for our team that we scored four goals," Voltz said.

The Bulldogs put up 15 shots, while the Tigers produced 10 in the Thursday night showdown. Goalkeeper Sarah Melén finished the game with five saves after facing ten shots.

" I am happy for our women, that their efforts got rewarded tonight. We played a physical team on a tough surface to play on after the rain delay. Towards the end of the first half, we took control of the game and scored a couple of nice goals at the end," Voltz said.
