Bulldogs Split Matches on Day One of Hurricane Invite

LA Tech fell 5-2 to A-State and clinched win over Wyoming on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TULSA, Okla. – Louisiana Tech bounced back from a 5-2 loss to Arkansas State to clinch the second match against Wyoming as the Bulldogs opened the 2025 season on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

LA Tech (1-1) was close to locking up the doubles point to start the day against A-State (1-0) after Mio Kozaki and Nina Skoric secured a 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot.  The duo of Ana Rodrigues and Zoie Epps were up 3-0 on court one but a couple of lost deuce points eventually led to a tough loss in a tiebreaker.

Playing indoors on three courts at the Hurricane Invite, the Bulldogs took two of the first three singles matches as Epps downed Lily Cvancigar 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 2 position and freshman Maria Tsironi claimed her first collegiate dual win by battling back to defeat Sarah Millard 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5) on court three.

The Red Wolves had the upper hand though on the three singles lines at the bottom, winning six of seven sets.

LA Tech had to quickly turn around to face a Wyoming (0-2) squad that has gone to the postseason in back-to-back seasons.  Roughly 15 minutes following the match against A-State, the Bulldogs took on the Cowgirls in singles.  And bounced back in a big way.

The team jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the top three lines – Rodrigues took care of Violetta Borodina 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1, Epps only dropped two games in overpowering Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2, and Tsironi bested Eugenia Ceinos 7-6 (2), 6-1 at No. 3.

The bottom of the lineup kept the momentum going as freshman Alice Brook notched her first dual victory of her collegiate career by defeating Dilnaz Mashabayeva 6-3, 6-4 on court six.  The fifth victory for the 'Dogs came from Skoric who won a marathon match versus Ruby Young 5-7, 7-6 (4), 7-5 on court four.

UP NEXT
