RUSTON – Louisiana Tech football's
Zach Zimos has been named a Semifinalist for the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup, announced by the organization's on Monday afternoon.
Zimos, who received the Conference USA Fall Spirit of Service Award, is one of five CUSA athletes to be named a semifinalist for the award and is one of 20 overall semifinalists.
Zimos takes pride in giving back to his community, logging several hours of community service through projects with Habitat for Humanity, Boys and Girls Club, Hometown Heroes visits, Dogs with a Cause, and elementary drop-off visits.
The senior linebacker played in all 13 games for the Bulldogs and led the team with 84 tackles, to go along with six tackles for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery. He earned All-CUSA Honorable Mention honors and was named to the Phil Steele All-CUSA Third Team.
The Texas native graduated with his Master of Business Administration this past summer with a 3.50 GPA. He was a CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll Recipient, and CUSA Medalist last season and was most recently named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team for the second consecutive season.
The award, which was first presented in 2005 and is named after legendary Coach John Wooden, celebrates athletes who excel in their sport, demonstrate exceptional leadership, contribute meaningfully to their community and embody the highest standards of personal character.
The top three finalists will be announced in mid-February and will be invited to the star-studded awards ceremony on April 25 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
