Bulldog Basketball Signs Three Standouts

Head coach Talvin Hester announced the addition of Braylon Wenger, Trashaun Combs-Pierce, and Adam Boyd to Ruston

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech Men's Basketball head coach Talvin Hester announced Monday the addition of three signees to the Bulldog Basketball family, welcoming Braylon Wenger, Trashaun Combs-Pierce, and Adam Boyd to Ruston.

Wenger, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound wing plays for the No. 1-ranked team in the NJCAA Division I national poll in Trinity Valley Community College.  Last season, he played a key role off the bench for a Trinity Valley squad that captured the 2025 NJCAA DI national championship, defeating Connors State, 69-61, in the program's first-ever title game appearance at Hutchinson Sports Arena in Kansas.

"LA Tech felt like home the minute I stepped on campus," Wenger said.  "Great coaching staff and a great program with a winning culture—somewhere I can see myself growing as a player and a person."

The Cardinals set a school record for wins, finishing 34-3, while Wenger contributed nine points and four rebounds in the championship game.  As a freshman, he averaged 5.0 points and 1.6 rebounds, shooting 38.1 percent from three and 84.8 percent at the foul line.

Before his junior college career, Wenger competed for the IMG Academy post-grad team in 2024.  He also starred at Dalton High School, where he was named the 2023 Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Division IV State Player of the Year after averaging 25.2 points and 7.6 rebounds.  He led Dalton to a league title, the school's first district championship in 21 years, and its first regional victory in 27 years.

"We are excited to have Braylon join our family," said Hester.  "He is a competitor who fits everything we are about in our program.  We were attracted to his winning ways and toughness.  We are ecstatic that he is going to be part of our program."

Combs-Pierce, a 6-foot-8, 210-pound forward, emerged as one of the top frontcourt players in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.  As a freshman at Independence Community College, he earned KJCCC All-Conference Honorable Mention, averaging 11.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 51 blocks, while leading the team with nine double-doubles.

"LA Tech felt like home when I got on campus," Combs-Pierce said. "It was a great vibe and atmosphere that I felt like I could thrive in. From coach Hester to the rest of the staff, they all kept it real, and I feel like they can help me become the player I want to be."

He posted a breakout performance with 30 points and 14 rebounds in an overtime win over Barton CC.  He shot 43.8 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from beyond the arc.

The Norman, Oklahoma, native starred for Norman High School, where he was named to The Oklahoman's 2024 Big All-City First Team as a senior after averaging 17.2 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks while helping the Tigers to a 21-6 season and a berth in the state tournament.

Combs-Pierce also brings a family connection to the program – his mother, Tashia, competed for the Lady Techsters during the 2004-05 season.

"Getting a student-athlete with the skill set that Trashaun possesses at his size is big for our program," Hester said. "It was a main focus for this recruiting class to get a skilled forward, and he checks that box. He impacts winning on both ends of the floor. We are looking forward to his arrival."

Boyd, a 6-foot-4, 170-pound guard, enters his senior high school season at Atascocita as one of the most highly regarded guards in the state of Texas.  The three-star prospect is ranked No. 3 in the Greater Houston Area by OTR Exposure, No. 18 in Texas, and the No. 38 point guard in the country by Rivals/On3.

"It felt like home and family," Boyd said of his signing with LA Tech.

As a junior, the Humble, Texas native earned First Team All-District and All-Region honors after averaging 12 points and three assists, helping lead Atascocita (along with current Bulldog Jaylen Fenner) to the UIL Class 6A Division I regional semifinals.  His resume also includes selections to the 2023 Dallas ISD All-Tournament Team and the 2024 McDonald's Invitational All-Tournament Team.

"We are very excited to add Adam to our Bulldog family," Hester said. "He is a crafty guard who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. He has a natural ability to make plays for himself and his teammates. We are looking forward to seeing him in a Bulldog uniform."
