Preview: LA Tech at Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships

The Bulldogs seek a third-straight year with at least one indoor champion at the conference meet in Lynchburg.
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Louisiana Tech men's and women's track and field programs are set to compete in the 2025 Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Head coach Brian Johnson and the Bulldogs are seeking a third consecutive indoor championship meet with at least one individual champion in three years under Johnson's guidance.
The Bulldogs have seen an improvement in team placement from the 2023 indoor championships to the 2024 indoor championships, with the men jumping from ninth place to fifth place. The women jumped from seventh place in 2023 to sixth place in 2024.

Time: Field: 12 p.m. CT / Track: 2 p.m. CT (Friday) | Field: 11 a.m. CT / Track: 1 p.m. CT (Saturday)

Competing Teams (10): FIU, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Liberty (host), Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, UTEP, Western Kentucky
Oscar Smith looks to be a strong contender in the 60-meter hurdles as he currently holds the indoor program record with a time of 7.74 and has reached the final round three times in as many meets he has competed in this season.
The Bulldogs' men's 4x400-meter relay group are the reigning CUSA indoor champion, coming off a performance at the Tyson Invitational that set a new program record with a time of 3:10.32 off the efforts of Tim Rummelhagen, Laeden Tucker, Sabastian Bradley-Reed and Valentino Rudolph. Tucker, Rummelhagen, Rudolph and Philip Gray Jr. were crowned 4x400-meter relay champions at the 2024 CUSA Indoor Championships.
Their record shattered a previous time of 3:12.07 that had held for 16 years.
A'reil Williams finished third at last year's indoor high jump championship and is the reigning outdoor high jump champion in the conference. Osaretin Joy Usenbor tied the women's indoor record in the 300-meter and was alongside teammates Jamara Patterson and Faith Tarver to finish as the runner-up in the 4x400-meter relay at last year's CUSA Indoor Championships. Cobe Johnson also finished third in the men's high jump.
Tarver finished fourth at last year's indoor championships in the women's 400.
LA Tech's women's 400 group of Nia Wiley, Usenbor, Patterson and Jenaia Williams were named to USTFCCCA's #EventSquad rankings for two-straight weeks under the top 20 list.
The men's 200 and 400 group were also named to USTFCCCA's #EventSquad rankings. The 200 group comprised of Devin Walton, Abdulraof Oriade Rashid, Bradley-Reed and Valentino Rudolph were ranked 20th. The 400 group of Bradley-Reed, Tucker, Rudolph and Rummelhagen were ranked 25th.
Rudolph finshed last year's 200-meter final in fourth as a freshman, and Rummelhagen and Tucker both finished in the top five in the 400.
