ABILENE, Texas – Zoie Epps and
Ana Rodrigues both provided points in doubles and singles as Louisiana Tech defeated Abilene Christian, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Teague Center.
Â
Due to weather conditions, the match was played indoors. With just three courts available, LA Tech (10-4) first secured the doubles point and then recorded three of the five completed singles matches to snap its two-game losing skid and register the 10th win of the spring.
Â
The duo of
Mio Kozaki and
Nina Skoric got the first win of the day, teaming up to claim a 6-2 victory on court three. With ACU (2-10) getting a 6-4 win on court two, the doubles point came down to court one where Rodrigues and Epps outlasted the pairing of Alice Klinteby and Masha Vrsalovic, 6-4, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Â
Epps instantly gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 advantage, surrendering just one game in an overpowering 6-0, 6-1 victory versus Olivia Sears at the No. 2 spot. Doubles partner, Rodrigues, made it 3-0 out after outlasting Vrsalovic at the No. 1 position, 6-4, 7-6 (2).
Â
ACU would start to make a comeback, securing a straight sets win at the No. 3 position. This gave way to the next wave of matches to get on court. The first one to finish was the No. 4 spot where the Wildcats registered another straight sets win.Â
Â
The remaining two matches went three sets. Closing it out was
Alice Brook would ran away with the third set, defeating Jess Board 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Kozaki's match was stopped at 3-all in the third.
