Preview: LA Tech at UL-Lafayette

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech softball will travel to Lafayette on Wednesday to face Louisiana-Lafayette in a 6:00 p.m. in-state matchup at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park. The Game will be streamed on ESPN+. This is the first of two meetings between the teams in the next six days.

SERIES HISTORY
 
This will be the 84th all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Rajin' Cajuns. This will be the first of two meetings this season between the team, both occurring within the span of the next six days. The two schools first met in 1980 with ULL winning the first two meetings. The Bulldogs would move to a 20-1 record over their next 20 games against the Rajin' Cajuns.  
 
LA Tech and ULL split its series 1-1 last season as the Rajin' Cajuns won the first matchup in Lafayette 9-3, while the Bulldogs won 5-3 at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field. ULL carried a 31-game winning streak dating back to 1998 before LA Tech won 5-3 at home. Alannah Rogers was the hero in last season's win as she blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-3, for her first home run in the year. She then plated a fourth run of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a single up the middle to make it 5-3 LA Tech. Claire Raley finished with one hit and one run in the win.
 
ABOUT LA TECH
 
The Bulldogs moved to 21-13 (8-4 CUSA) after going 1-2 against Western Kentucky on the road in Bowling Green this past weekend. LA Tech fell 8-0 in six innings in the Friday night matchup before splitting the double header on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs won game one 8-4 followed by a 5-2 loss to close the series.
 
Redshirt sophomore Reagan Marchant displayed her power at the plate on Saturday as she belted three home runs during the double header. Marchant hit a solo shot in the second inning of game one, followed by a two-run shot in the fourth inning. She turned around and hit her third homer of the day in game two on a solo shot to left in the fourth. Marchant (10) became the first Bulldog to reach double digit home runs in a season since current assistant coach Madie Green hit 13 in 2022. The South Carolina native has 31 hits this season, 26 RBI, and is batting .313.
 
Alexis Gilio collected four hits this weekend to bring her season total to 34 base knocks. She registered two hits in both games of Saturday's double header. The senior outfielder is batting .306 this season with 18 runs and 13 RBI.
 
Elena Heng sits atop of LA Tech's hit leader list with 40, followed by Claire Raley and Nicole Hammoude with 37. Hammoude leads the team with a .402 average and 30 RBI, followed by Raley (.359), and Heng (.354). Raley leads the team with 32 runs scored while Heng has reached home safely 30 times. Hammoude and Raley are tied for second on the team with six home runs apiece.
 
Allie Floyd moved to 16-6 in the circle after going 1-1 this weekend. She added 12 strikeouts to her name in 11.0 innings of work. Floyd leads the CUSA in innings pitched (125.0), wins (16), and strikeouts (130). She ranks second in the NCAA with 16 wins, 14th in strikeouts, and fifth in innings pitched.
 
The Bulldog pitching staff has a 3.90 team ERA. Laney Johnson (2-1) and Mattison Buster (2-2) are second on the team with two wins apiece. Johnson has logged two complete game wins in the circle and is second on the team in innings pitched (34.1). Alyssa Martin is second on the team with 17 strikeouts. 
 
ABOUT ULL
 
ULL comes into tomorrow's matchup with a 17-17 record after dropping its series 1-2 with Coastal Carolina this past weekend. The Rajin' Cajuns were on a four-game skid before taking down Coastal 9-5 in the series finale.
 
The Rajin' Cajuns are batting .298 as a team and have been outhit 256-266 this season. ULL has four players with a .300+ batting average as Kayla Falterman leads the way with a .432 and is second on the team with 32 hits. Maddie Hayden leads the team with 41 base knocks and 33 runs, while her .369 average is second best on the team.
 
ULL has hit 18 home runs this season and Emily Smith has half of them with nine Smith and Cecilia Vasquez lead the team with 29 RBI apiece. The Rajin' Cajuns are 32-of-39 in stolen base attempts as Hayden leads the team with 11.
 
The ULL pitching staff holds a 5.73 team ERA as teams are batting .300 against them. All four pitchers have 5.00+ ERAs. Sam Ryan leads the team with a 5.19 ERA as she sits at 3-4 in the circle in 43.1 innings of work. Mallory Wheeler leads the team with a 7-4 record in 68.0 innings.
