Scooter Williams Signs with Bulldogs

Williams spent this past season at East Texas A&M

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech Men's Basketball head coach Talvin Hester announced Friday the signing of James "Scooter" Williams, a transfer from East Texas A&M.

Williams, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound guard from Clarksville, Tennessee, was the leading scorer for the Lions this past season.  Prior to that, Williams played two seasons at Chattanooga State CC and one season at Missouri State – West Plains.

"We are absolutely thrilled about the addition of Scooter," said Hester.  "He brings an immediate impact with his exceptional size, athleticism, and poise on the perimeter.  He plays with a high motor and a fierce competitive edge on both ends of the floor.  His presence elevates the intensity and versatility of our lineup from day one."

Williams played in all 31 games for East Texas A&M, averaging 11.2 points per contest while shooting 40.9 percent from the field.  He registered 21 double-digit scoring performances, including a season-high 22 points against Nicholls.  He also ranked second on the squad in total assists (76), steals (37), and blocks (23).

His standout season came in 2023-24, leading Chattanooga State CC to a 22-win season and a runner-up finish in the NJCAA Region VII championship.

Williams was named NJCAA Second Team All-American, TCCAA Player of the Year, and TCCAA Offensive Player of the Year after averaging 21.4 points per game, which ranked 17th in the country.  He shot 55.9 percent from the field, registering 16 games of 20+ points including a pair of 40-point efforts.

Ranking as the 35th-best junior college player in the country per JucoRecruiting.com, he also averaged 7.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game.

After missing his first season with the Tigers due to injury, he led the Tigers to a 26-6 overall record while averaging 15.6 points with a 53.6 percent shooting clip in 2022-23.  He also averaged 4.3 boards and 3.5 assists per contest.
