RUSTON – Conference USA released its 2025 Preseason Superlative Awards on Monday afternoon, with Louisiana Tech linebacker
Kolbe Fields voted as the league's Defensive Player of the Year.
Fields enters his third season in Ruston and his second as a starter after sitting out the 2023 season due to transfer rules. He earned All-CUSA Second Team honors in 2024, his first year as a starter.
The New Orleans native started in 11 games last season, recording 71 tackles (38 solo, 33 assists), nine tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups. He recorded three games with double-digit tackles and led Bulldogs in tackles four times. He made a season-high 12 stops in the season opener against Nicholls, while posting 10 tackles against New Mexico State and 11 versus UTEP. His 71 total tackles ranked second on the team, and he enters the 2025 season as LA Tech's top returning tackler.
