RUSTON – The Bulldogs drew even with the McNeese Cowgirls, 1-1, Sunday night at Robert Mack Caruthers Field.
Despite neither side putting a shot in the back of the net through the first 45 minutes, Tech outshot McNeese 9-2, putting six of those in frame. The Bulldog defense held the Cowgirls to just one shot on goal, while McNeese doubled Tech's corner total, 4-2.
The Bulldogs ended the match with an even split of nine shots in each half, adding three more on target in the final 45 minutes.
Freshman
Abby Hanton delivered the opening score of the night in the 59th minute on a perfect serve from junior captain
Madison Pensom just past the midfield line in the Bulldogs' attacking half, giving Hanton her first career score and Pensom's first collegiate assist.
McNeese netted the equalizer 16 minutes later in the 75th minute on a corner serve that just missed the keeper's hands before ricocheting off a McNeese player and a second player coming in for a sliding shot attempt that found the back of the net to even the score.
Shani Sirota made her third career start, playing 64 minutes and putting one of her two shots in frame. Pensom and
Ashley Leonhart led the match with three shots a piece.
LA Tech now looks to close out the three-match homestand with UL-Lafayette on Thursday, August 21 at 7 p.m. CT.
