NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Tech dropped a tough road match on Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-19) to Tulane inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.
Â
LA Tech (3-3) battled throughout but could not overcome Tulane's (3-2) efficient attack and eight team blocks.
Â
After Tulane opened with an early 4-0 run, LA Tech responded with kills from
Jailen Hurley and
Grace Luevanos to pull even at 9-9. Â The Green Wave regained control with a mid-set surge and closed it out 25-19 despite late points from
Zari Gillispie and
Carla Esquer.
The Bulldogs again fought back from an early deficit, using a
Grace Krohn service ace and a pair of Hurley kills to tie things at 6-6. Â The Green Wave countered, stretching the margin and never trailing the rest of the way to take another 25-19 decision.
The final set mirrored the first two as LA Tech stayed within striking distance early, highlighted by kills from Luevanos, Gillispie, and
Carla Esquer. However, Tulane used a 6-1 run midway through the frame to create separation and sealed the match with another 25-19 win.

QUOTABLES
Head coach Scott Mattera
Â
"Fun volleyball match today with a very big and athletic Tulane squad who played really hard on their home floor with a nice crowd.  I'm really pleased with how hard we played and how intense the battle got at times – we just didn't execute on first touch late in games well enough to score.  Another opportunity against a quality opponent tomorrow – spirits are high as we continue to grow!"
