
Bulldogs Fight in Four Set Loss to Ragin' Cajuns

Louisiana Tech battled for four sets in a loss against UL-Lafayette in Earl K. Long Gym Saturday afternoon, 3-1.

Taylor Woods remained a steady option for the Bulldogs, leading the team with 14 kills on .323 hitting for the day. Kylie Rodriguez followed with a dozen kills of her own, leading the team with 36 attempts. Sydnee Carter put up 37 assists, the second most by a Bulldog so far this season.
The Bulldogs struck first in the opening set behind a Gabrielle Hairston kill, helping propel LA Tech to a 5-1 lead. The Ragin' Cajuns swung the momentum, taking a 15-13 lead at the media timeout. LA Tech tied it 18-18, but ULL finished the set on a 7-2 run to take the first point 25-19. Woods led the match with five kills in the first set.
Riley Steubing rolled her ankle late in the set, but in an incredible showing of grit, got taped after the point and went right back into the match. Steubing did not miss the next point and remained the libero the rest of the match.
LA Tech scored first again, but the Cajuns quickly took control and led as much as seven before the media timeout. ULL remained ahead for the rest of the match, winning the second set by the same score as the first, 25-19. Steubing, on a bad ankle, found five digs, tying the match lead in the set.
The third set was the tightest set of the match with 12 ties and eight lead changes. The Bulldogs took a one point lead at the media timeout and led 23-21 heading into the final points. Back-to-back kills from Woods and Rodriguez secured the set 25-22, winning the Bulldogs the set. G. Hairston added five kills on six attempts, the most by a player in the set.
The Ragin' Cajuns dominated the fourth set, starting the match on a 7-3 run and leading 15-8 at the media timeout. ULL won the set 25-17 on .364 hitting, winning the match 3-1.
Steubing, on a bad ankle, was the match leader with 18 digs, 13 of those coming after getting taped on the bench. The Bulldogs out-blocked the Sun Belt leading Cajuns 6-4, the same number as the last match.

- Steubing rolled her ankle in the first set, yet persevered and led the match in digs with 18.
- Woods led the Bulldogs with 14 kills, her fourth match a row as the leader.
- Steubing played in her 101st career match as a Bulldog, reaching the century mark in yesterday's match.
