RUSTON – In an 11-inning defensive battle, Louisiana Tech prevailed with a 3-2 extra-inning walk-off win over ULM on Thursday night at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field. The Bulldogs defeated the Warhawks on a
Bradi Gallaway solo home run and had a complete-game performance in the circle from
Allie Floyd.
LA Tech moves to 10-2 on the season after taking round one of the Battle of I-20.
Gallaway led the Bulldogs with three hits, while
Reese Torres and
Allie Furr collected two hits apiece.
Cali Bennett,
Aleah Brooks,
Gracie Flores,
Rosalie Dufresne and
Alannah Rogers all registered one hit each. Rogers led the team with two-RBI. The Bulldogs outhit the Warhawks 12-5.
Floyd (3-1) pitched all 11.0 innings to earn the win. The right-hander allowed two runs on five hits while striking out five and walking two. She only allowed two hits during the first seven innings, with one being a bunt.
Floyd was almost perfect in the circle through the first four innings, only allowing one base runner on a walk to the first batter of the game. She would retire 12 straight before allowing a walk, bunt single and a two-run single in the top of the fifth as ULM struck first to take a lead.
LA Tech recorded four hits over the first five innings but was unable to capitalize, despite placing a runner at third in the second and runners at second and third in the fourth. The Bulldogs grounded into two double plays during that stretch.
The Bulldogs tied the game in the sixth when Rogers delivered in a pinch-hit opportunity, driving in two runs with a single to right field. Rogers scored
Avery Jefferson, who pinch-ran for
Aleah Brooks after she was hit by a pitch, and Torres, who had doubled earlier in the inning. Furr advanced Jefferson to second and Torres to third with a single up the middle.
Tech had a chance to win it in the seventh after loading the bases on a Gallaway single, a
Reagan Marchant hit by pitch and a Flores single but was unable to score. The Bulldogs threatened again in the ninth when Bennett led off the inning with a double and advanced to third with one out, but once again came up empty.
ULM got a runner to third in the top of the 11th and tried to advance home in which she was tagged out on a one-three putout from Floyd to catcher
Rosalie Dufresne who tagged the lead runner.
With two outs in the bottom of the 11
th, Gallaway was able to walk it off with a solo home run to left center to give LA Tech the 3-2 win over ULM.

On the win, the defensive performance and hitting.…
"Overall, offensively, there's 12 hits. I think that there are some good things in there. There are three keys to winning that I talk to these girls about a lot. In order to win championships, you have to play great defense every day, you have to pitch every day, and you need timely hitting. We certainly got the defense for the most part, and then we certainly have the pitching with what Allie [Floyd] did tonight. We lacked a little bit through the game until Bradi's [Gallaway] big home run and A1's [
Alannah Rogers] pinch-hit two RBI hit. We had plenty of opportunities. We left way too many runners on base tonight, but I am really proud of their fight. Allie [Floyd] has been doing what she what she does since she got here. She was going make us pry the ball out of her hand if we were going to go get her, so we knew she wanted the ball. She knows how much she loves competing, and especially in those situations, and she just kept providing our offense with as many opportunities as they could get, and Bradi [Gallaway] comes out and hits a big home run to walk them off. It was exciting. It was fun, but I am mostly proud of their fight. They never they never quit all game. loved our dugout, our culture. It's just fantastic. It is a big win for us."
