LA Tech Drops Two Games to Open Bulldog Classic

Bulldogs fall 2-0 to SFA, 10-2 to Central Arkansas

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech softball dropped both of its games on day one of the Bulldog Classic, falling to Stephen F. Austin 2-0 and Central Arkansas 10-2 in five innings. The losses move the Bulldogs to 12-5 on the season.

The Bulldogs and Lumberjacks both recorded five hits in game one, before Tech was outhit 13-4 in the nightcap against the Bears. Elena Heng finished with two hits against SFA while Rosalie Dufresne collected two hits, including a double, against UCA. Dufresne's two-bagger was Tech's lone extra-base hit of the day. Aleah Brooks led the Bulldogs with two RBI.

GAME ONE | SFA 2, LA Tech 0

Allie Floyd (4-2) took the loss in the circle against SFA after allowing two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Bryannah Campos tossed the final two frames and did not allow a single run or hit while striking out three and walking one.

SFA scored both of its runs in the fifth inning on three hits, all with two outs. Back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases before Kylie Bishop delivered a single up the middle to plate the game's only runs.

GAME TWO | UCA 10, LA Tech 2 (5)

UCA jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first, picking up three early hits, before LA Tech tied the game at 1-1 with a Brooks RBI single that scored Heng who reached on a walk to start the inning.

After a scoreless second inning, the Bears took a 5-1 lead in the top of the third behind five hits, including a solo home run, an RBI single and a two-run single. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the frame as Brooks drove in Allie Furr who walked earlier in the inning.

UCA would go on to score two in the fourth, taking advantage of one hit, two walks and a groundout, followed by three runs on three hits in the fifth to earn the 10-2 run-rule victory after Tech was unable to get anything going in the bottom of the inning.

Campos (3-1) took the loss after entering the game in the top of the second with the score tied at 1-1. Campos allowed four runs on six hits across two innings. Ryleigh Shull pitched 0.1 innings and game up two runs on one hit with two walks. Laney Johnson started the game and pitched the first inning where she gave up one run on three hits. QUOTABLES
Head coach Josh Taylor

Coach Taylor's thoughts on today's games.…
"Disappointed. We did not compete, especially offensively. Offensively, we got nothing all day from most of our hitters. I thought our slappers did a decent job of competing and getting on base. I thought Elena Heng was really good all day long. I thought she competed really well at the plate. I thought Allie Furr competed well at the plate today. If your run producers are literally giving you nothing, except brutal at bat after brutal at bat, non-competitive at bat after non-competitive bat, it is hard to score runs…and you saw that today."

NOTABLES
