HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Louisiana Tech softball moved to 3-0 on the season Saturday after winning both of its games against UAB and SEMO. The Bulldogs started the day with a 7-4 win over the Blazers followed by an 8-0 shutout over the RedHawks.
Tech combined for 22 hits in the two games, outhitting SEMO and UAB 22-8, including eight extra base hits.
GAME ONE
Ryleigh Shull started in the circle in game one and allowed two runs on no hits with three walks in 1.1 innings.
Laney Johnson (2-0) earned the win after pitching 3.2 innings, surrendering two runs on five hits.
Bryannah Campos recorded her first career save by tossing two perfect innings to close the game, allowing no hits, runs or walks.
Aleah Brooks led the Bulldogs with three hits and one RBI, followed by
Reagan Marchant who collected two hits and one RBI.
Reese Torres drove in two runs on one hit, while
Gracie Flores and
Karli Sellers both tallied one hit and one RBI.
Bradi Gallaway was able to drive in a run on a sac fly.
UAB jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after two innings, scoring on a ground out in the first and on a single to center in the second. The Blazers were able to take advantage of an error, two walks and three wild pitches.
UAB's lead did not last long as LA Tech took a 4-2 lead after the third inning. After a line out to start the inning, Marchant reached base on a single, followed by a Gallaway walk and a Brooks fielder's choice, Flores used a sac fly to score Marchant. Sellers followed that with a single to center that scored Gallaway, while Torres followed with a two-out double to right field that scored Sellers and Brooks.
The Bulldogs took a 5-2 lead in the fifth as
Avery Jefferson came around to score after pinch running for Brooks who singled to start the frame. UAB cut the lead to one after scoring two in the top of the sixth on three singles and a sac fly, but not before Tech added two more in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-4 lead. Heng drew a walk and advanced to third on a Marchant double and would come around to score on a Gallaway sac fly. Brooks singled to center scoring Marchant, giving Tech a 7-4 lead, while Campos was able to shut the door in the seventh for the save.
GAME TWO
With her arm already warm, Campos took the ball in game two and had a phenomenal first start, allowing just two hits and no runs across 4.0 innings while striking out three with one walk.
Ruby Fidge pitched the final 3.0 innings and allowed one hit, no walks with three strikeouts.
Heng, Marchant,
Cali Bennett and Brooks all collected two hits apiece in the win. Torres led the Bulldogs with three RBI, followed by
Rosalie Dufresne who drove in two.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as three consecutive two out singles allowed Furr to score on a Bennett single to short and a throwing error. Tech made it 3-0 in the fifth as Heng led off the frame with a double, followed by a Marchant double to plate Heng.
LA Tech made it 5-0 in the top of the sixth as
Alannah Rogers came around to score on a wild pitch after reaching on a single. The Bulldogs added three more runs on three doubles in the top of the seventh to make it 8-0.
Fidge was able to induce two strikeouts and a fly out to close the game.
