LA Tech Earns Series Sweep Over Delaware with 11-0 Run-Rule Win

Floyd tosses second complete-game shutout of weekend; Marchant, Gallaway homer in nine-run third inning

RUSTONAllie Floyd tossed her second complete-game shutout of the weekend as Louisiana Tech softball needed just five innings to defeat Delaware 11-0 on Sunday at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field, completing a three-game sweep over the Blue Hens in Conference USA play. The win moves LA Tech to 17-10 (3-3 CUSA).

The Bulldogs outhit the Blue Hens 8-1 with three hits going for extra bases. Bradi Gallaway and Reagan Marchant both hit three-run home runs in the third inning while Aleah Brooks doubled in the second.

Floyd (7-6) allowed one hard hit ball in the third inning that Brooks dove for and knocked down, resulting in one single. The right-hander struck out six and walked four in the win.

Marchant led the Bulldogs with two hits, while her and Gallaway added three RBI each. Gallaway, Brooks, Elena Heng, Allie Furr, Alannah Rogers, and Reese Torres collected one hit apiece, while Heng, Furr, Jina Baffuto and Rogers drove in a run each.

LA Tech got the scoring started in the second as Brooks led off the inning with a double, followed by a walk to Rosalie Dufresne. Brooks and Dufresne advanced 60-feet on a wild pitch and would both come around to score on back-to-back sacrifice flies from Jina Baffuto and Rogers to make it 2-0 Tech.

Delaware made an early pitching change in the third from Claire Woods to Karli Challburg and after flyout, Tech welcomed the new arm with a single from Marchant, a walk by Torres and a three-run homer from Gallaway to make it 5-0. Challburg was pulled and replaced by Kylie Wilkerson after walking Brooks. Wilkerson fielded a Dufresne grounder and threw it into center, prolonging the inning, placing two on with one out.

After a strikeout, Rogers recorded a two-out single through the right side to load the bases. Heng followed with a single to left that scored Brooks to give LA Tech a 6-0 lead. The Blue Hens then made their third pitching change of the inning, bringing in Josie Crossman, who allowed a single to Furr that drove in two runs. Dufresne scored on the hit, while Rogers came home on a fielding error by the left fielder.

With Tech leading 8-0, Marchant cleared the bases with the Bulldogs' second three-run homer of the third inning to extend the lead to 11-0 and cap a nine-run inning.

Floyd retired the side with two strikeouts and a groundout in the fourth while working around a walk in the fifth to secure the run-rule win.

QUOTABLES
Head coach Josh Taylor

Coach Taylor's Postgame Comments on what he saw from his team.…
"Just a good response from what happened last week on the road. A really good response, much needed as well. I think we pitched really well all weekend. I think we played really good defense all weekend and I think we got a lot of timely hits and kind of got ourselves going and got ourselves a little more confident. It was a really important weekend for us to even up in conference play and go into a real tough Jacksonville State series next weekend."
