JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Louisiana Tech softball dropped its series opener 3-0 to Jacksonville State on Friday night at Jana McGinnis Field. The loss moves LA Tech to 17-12 (3-4 Conference USA).
It was a true pitcher's duel as both arms went the distance in the circle.
Allie Floyd (7-7) earned the start and pitched 6.0 innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and zero walks.
Makenna Moore (7-0) went the distance for the Gamecocks as the freshman allowed four singles with eight strikeouts, while walking five Bulldog batters.
Elena Heng,
Allie Furr,
Rosalie Dufresne and
Alannah Rogers all recorded singles for LA Tech.
The Bulldogs had multiple scoring opportunities but left eight runners on base, compared to just two for Jax State.
LA Tech left two runners on in the second and two more in the third. Rogers led off the third with a single to second for Tech's first hit of the night.
Jax State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third after Haleigh Cushingberry doubled to left center and advanced home on a fielding error in left field. The Bulldogs placed two runners on with one out in the fifth, but back-to-back strikeouts would end Tech's scoring threat.
The Gamecocks took advantage of timely hitting in the sixth after recording a two-out double followed by a two-run home run to give Jax State the 3-0 lead heading into the seventh.
Moore was able to work around a two-out walk to close the door for the win.
