JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Louisiana Tech softball led for six ½ innings before Jacksonville State tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and used a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Bulldogs 4-2 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Jana McGinnis Field. The loss moves LA Tech to 17-14 (3-6 Conference USA).
The Bulldogs were outhit 7-5 in the loss, as
Allie Furr and
Elena Heng led Tech with two hits each, while
Bradi Gallaway recorded one double.
Aleah Brooks and
Alannah Rogers both drove in runs for Tech.
Allie Floyd (7-8) started in the circle and took the loss. Floyd tossed 7.1 innings and allowed just one run through the first six ½ innings. She gave up four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
Heng led off the game with a four-pitch walk and came around to score on a double down the right-field line by Gallaway to give LA Tech a 1-0 lead. Furr followed with an infield single to short and advanced to third on a groundout. Rogers then plated Furr with a groundout to second, extending the lead to 2-0.
Floyd sat the Gamecocks down in order in the bottom of the first before Jax State was able to get one run back on two hits in the bottom of the second. Jax State registered a single, double and walk to load the bases before a sacrifice fly brought a runner home.
Down 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Jax State took advantage of a one out walk, a steal and two-out double to tie the game at two apiece and force extras.
The Bulldogs went down in order in the top of the eighth on a groundout, foul out and strikeout. Jacksonville State then got a double from the second batter of the inning, followed by a two-run home run to secure the 4-2 win for the Gamecocks.
