Preview: LA Tech at No. 14 Texas A&M

Bulldogs face Aggies in Midweek

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech opens Conference USA play this weekend, but first the Bulldogs will travel to College Station, Texas, to face No. 14 Texas A&M on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+.

This will mark the 65th all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Aggies and the first since 2023. Tech has not defeated Texas A&M this century, last earning two wins over the Aggies during the 1997 season at the Texas A&M Tournament in early March.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH
 
LA Tech moved to 13-6 on the season after going 1-3 at home in the Bulldog Classic. The Bulldogs dropped their first three games to Stephen F. Austin (2-0), Central Arkansas (10-2) and Northern Iowa (9-2) before closing the four-day event with a 6-3 win over UCA on Sunday.
 
Allie Floyd improved to a staff-best 5-2 after earning a complete-game win against UCA, her fourth complete game of the season. She recorded five strikeouts in the victory. Floyd also struck out five in her start against SFA on Friday, surpassing 350 career strikeouts and moving into sole possession of 10th place on LA Tech's all-time strikeout list.
 
Floyd leads the team in innings pitched (57.0) and strikeouts (49). Her 49 strikeouts rank second in CUSA. Laney Johnson is 4-0 with 11 strikeouts across 30.2 innings of work. Bryannah Campos leads the team with 12 appearances and has a 3-2 record and 18 strikeouts in 29.2 innings of action.
 
A trio of Bulldog freshmen powered the win over UCA as Aleah Brooks, Cali Bennett and Bradi Gallaway combined to drive in five of LA Tech's six runs and account for seven of the team's nine hits. Bennett led the group with four hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Brooks added two hits and two RBIs, while Gallaway chipped in one hit and one RBI.
 
The Bulldogs have three players with 20 or more hits as Elena Heng leads the group with 24 hits. Brooks ranks second with 22 hits while Allie Furr has logged 20 base knocks.
 
Reese Torres leads the team with 15 RBI followed by Gallaway with 13 and Reagan Marchant (11). Torres, Gallaway and Marchant have all homered a team-leading three times apiece. Torres leads the team with eight extra-base hits followed by Brooks with six.
 
Tech has a .312 team batting average while opposing hitters are batting .251 against Tech pitchers. The Bulldogs have a 3.15 staff ERA.
 
ABOUT TEXAS A&M
 
Texas A&M enters Wednesday night's matchup as the No. 14 team in the country. The Aggies are 15-7 on the year which includes a 9-2 mark at Davis Diamond. A&M went 4-1 this past weekend in the Texas A&M Invitational, earning wins over Kennesaw State (8-0, 11-2), Saint Mary's (12-1) and ULL (5-1). The Aggies fell to ULL 10-8 on Friday.
 
A&M is batting .364 as a team while opposing hitters are batting .221 against Aggie pitchers. The Aggies have outscored their opponents 162-79 while outhitting them 204-116.
 
Kennedy Powell leads the team with 33 hits, followed by Mya Perez with 29. Micaela Wark leads the team with nine home runs and 29 RBI, followed by Perez who has recorded eight homers and 26 RBI.
 
Sidne Peters (6-2) and Sydney Lessentine (6-1) lead the A&M pitching staff with six wins apiece. Lessentine has tossed 47.2 innings and has registered 42 strikeouts. Peters has a staff-best 2.30 across 45.2 innings with a team-best 49 strikeouts.
