LA Tech Falls to No. 14 Texas A&M in Midweek Action

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Louisiana Tech softball fell 9-1 to No. 14 Texas A&M in five innings Wednesday evening at Davis Diamond. The loss moves Tech to 13-7.
 
Allie Floyd (5-3) started in the circle and took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits across two innings. Bryannah Campos tossed one inning and gave up three runs on two hits, while Laney Johnson allowed three runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work.
 
The Bulldogs were outhit 8-4 in the loss with Reese Torres and Elena Heng both registering two hits apiece for LA Tech. Torres drove in Tech's lone run as she singled through the right side to score Carolina Eidson.
 
The Aggies jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Mya Perez got A&M on the board with a solo home run. After a quiet third inning for both teams, A&M took a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the third, capitalizing on three hits and one error.
 
A&M took advantage of a double, passed ball and sac fly to take a 2-0 lead, followed by three-run home run to take a 5-0 lead. The Aggies would tack on one more run on a single to left field to take a 6-0 lead.
 
The Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the fourth as Aleah Brooks drew a walk and was pinch ran for by Eidson, who Torres was able to plate on a single through the right side.
 
The Aggies answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the run-rule victory. After a leadoff walk, Johnson was able to induce a pop up and ground out before back-to-back doubles and a single to left center drove in three consecutive runs.  
 
NOTABLES
- Josh Taylor moves to 148-98 as head coach at LA Tech.
- Texas A&M now leads the all-time series 43-22.  
- Elena Heng registered her 9th multi-hit game of the season while Reese Torres collected her 6th.
- Bulldog batters only struck out two times.
 
NEXT UP
The Bulldogs open Conference USA play this weekend with a three-game series at New Mexico State in Las Cruces, New Mexico. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. CT on Friday.
