‘Dogs Fall In Series Opener To Jaguars In Mobile

Cade Patterson poked his third homer of the season the other way for a three-run blast in the third, but it was all the offense Tech mustered Friday night.

MOBILE, Ala. – The Diamond 'Dogs (8-7) dropped their sixth-straight game after falling to the South Alabama Jaguars (11-3), 9-3, at Eddie Stanky Field in Mobile, Alabama Friday night.

The Jaguars put on an offensive display in the opening frame, jumping to a 6-0 lead going into the second inning. The first three batters of the order picked up three consecutive base hits, including an RBI knock to score the first run of the game.

A walk followed to load the bases before a grand slam and a solo homer swiftly gave the home club a six-run lead.

Both sides were retired in order in the second, including the 'Dogs getting a double play in the home half following a leadoff single and ending the frame with a groundout.

Cade Patterson put Tech on the board in the third with his third round-tripper of the season, driving in three runs after Wesley Scott led off with a single and Hayden Gustavson put runners on second and third with a double down the right field line.

South Alabama jumped back out to a five-run lead in the fourth on a pair of RBI singles on consecutive at-bats, before adding an insurance run late in the game in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.

Connor Nation and Kade Parker combined for three scoreless innings in relief, with both pitchers giving up a walk and striking out a batter, and Parker scattered three hits among the nine batters he faced.

Game 2 of the series is set for Saturday, March 7 at 2 p.m. CT at Stanky Field. Live stream will be available on ESPN+, and radio broadcast can be heard on 97.7 FM, the LA Tech Athletics app or the Varsity Network app.
