LA Tech Drops Series Finale to New Mexico State

Marchant homers for the third straight game; Up to 25 for her career

LAS CRUSES, N.M. - Louisiana Tech softball dropped its series finale 7-1 to New Mexico State on Sunday at the New Mexico State Softball Complex. The loss moves LA Tech to 13-10 (0-3 CUSA).

The Bulldogs were outhit 12-6 in the loss and registered just one extra-base hit — a solo home run off the bat of Reagan Marchant that led to Tech's lone run of the afternoon.

Elena Heng registered three hits in the loss while Marchant, Allie Furr and Aleah Brooks collected one hit apiece.

Allie Floyd (5-6) started in the circle and took the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on 10 hits with four strikeouts. Laney Johnson pitched the sixth inning and allowed two hits.

NMSU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run from the second batter of the inning after a leadoff single. The Aggies then took advantage of a fielding error and three consecutive singles to drive in their third run.

The Aggies took a 4-0 lead in the second after back-to-back two-out doubles led to a run. LA Tech cut the deficit to three in the fourth with a leadoff solo blast to center from Marchant, her fourth home run of the series and seventh of the season.

NMSU added three runs in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of four hits and one error. The first two Aggie batters reached via a double and a fielding error and would both come around to score on back-to-back one out singles. After an attempted double steal in which Tech got the lead runner at home, NMSU added one more run on a two out single to take the 7-1 lead which would prove to hold.

The Bulldogs went down in order in the sixth and got three aboard in the seventh but were unable to make anything of it.

QUOTABLES
Head coach Josh Taylor

Coach Taylor's Postgame Comments.…
"Rough weekend. As a team we cannot allow the uncontrollables of field conditions, umpires, weather, etc. to dictate our confidence level. We allowed these things to affect us all weekend and did not prove to be tough enough to respond. That is the most disappointing thing for me about the entire weekend. We have a group of very talented young women, and I will be looking for a better response moving forward."
